Yesterday afternoon, a friend and I spent about an hour at Big Johnson
Reservoir trying out my new scope. (Yeah!) The reservoir was almost all ice,
except what looked like a few open patches of water at the far, far shoreline.
There were some Canada Geese way out there along with some ducks - I did manage
to ID the mallards but the rest - who knows? The heat waves coming up of the
ice made seeing details difficult. The first thing we saw were two adult Bald
Eagles sitting on the ice. After sometime, they flew up into the trees and
perched there. We also saw a Northern Harrier, some gulls (not further
identified) and a possible Golden Eagle or an immature Bald Eagle flying to the
east. This bird was pretty far away but from the way it flew and the general
size, I can only surmise it was an eagle. It was large and dark - no white head
or tail.

Other wildlife seen - the ubiquitious prairie dog, one coyote and two
pronghorns.

I can't wait for some of the ice to melt so I can go out there again and play
with my new toy some more!
