This morning I arrived at Lake Hasty Campground in Bent County at 6:45 a.m. I could tell it had rained a lot the night before, the only semblance to a fallout was Lazuli Buntings everywhere, I counted 27. Other numbers seemed normal. Of note were two Warbling Vireos, one Red-eyed Vireo, two American Redstart, Bullock's Orioles in abundance, one Orchard Oriole, several Lesser Goldfinch.. Bird of the day for me was a Rose-breasted Grosbeak.
At Melody Tempel Grove in Prowers county, I came very close to getting stuck in the mud. I didn't see the Wood Thrush found by Janeal Thompson, of note I had three Ovenbirds, a Wilson's Warbler, four Warbling Vireos, Swainson's and Hermit Thrushes, one Western Wood-Pewee, Northern Mockingbird, Brown Thrasher, Western Tanager, an Orchard Oriole, Black-headed Grosbeak, and I was a bit surprised to see an Eastern Hairy Woodpecker. Lark Sparrows and Lark Buntings on the road out. The road conditions prevented me from visiting several other locations, and it rained hard the whole way home. Rain is forecast off and on tomorrow and Thursday, all dirt roads in the area should be a mess.
