Highlights of bird banding at CBR since my last post:
A Northern Parula banded on Sat. 5/13 - only the second banded in the history
of the station. Also on the same day, an American Redstart, a gorgeous adult
male Blue Grosbeak, and seven feisty Bullock's Orioles.
The second Veery of the sea
We've banded 118 birds in 9 days of banding since opening the station on April
22. Numbers of captures are typically low in April and this season is
certainly typical thus far, with a high of 30 individuals banded on 4/26
(current season high) and low of 3 on 4/27 and 4/28.

The fall bird banding season at Chico Basin Ranch has begun. Amid the hordes
of voracious mosquitoes, we netted on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of last
week, totaling 71 banded thus far.
Not surprisingly, Wilson's Warbler topped the list with 33 banded. Common
