The North Wind did blow did it not early this morning?! The Mist nets were
not affected much by the wind this morning so we were able to operate the
banding station. We had lots of visitors today including an adult group and
some BCR board members stopped by. We did not have a lot of birds but they
seemed to be excited to see the birds we did have.

Fourteen species of birds were captured today including highlights of a
recaptured Veery and Black-headed Grosbeak. The grosbeak was first banded a
week ago and had gained 25% of its body weight (mass) from the original
banding date. Not sure where it has been in the last week but it definitely
was doing quite well. The Veery and Western tanager banded in last couple
days and caught today again lost a slight bit of weight. The Wilson's
Warbler recapture increased its weight but not much to put a percentage on
it.

*35 New Birds*
Wilson's Warbler -18
Orange-crowned Warbler -1
Western Wood-Pewee -4
Chipping Sparrow -2
Clay-colored Sparrow -1
Lincoln's Sparrow -1
Blue Grosbeak -3
Gray Catbird -1
Sage Thrasher -1
Brown Thrasher -2
American Robin -1

*6 Recaptures*
Wilson's Warbler -1
Veery -1
Black-headed Grosbeak -1
Western Tanager -1

The Banding station is open Monday - Saturday through September 30th.
Mornings are a good time to visit the station to see the passerine bird
activity.
Have a Good Weekend!
