Like Colin, we had a few more birds and several FOS today. What is
interesting to me is the number of one-of-a-kinds:

Black-capped Chickadee 1
House Wren 1, banded 2019
Gray Catbird 1 (FOS)
Orange-crowned Warbler 1 (FOS)
Virginia's Warbler 1
Yellow Warbler 1, male banded 2016 and recaught in 2017, 18, and 19 (missed
in 20 because we did not run the station)
Common Yellowthroat 1
Wilson's Warbler 1
Yellow-breasted Chat 1 (FOS)
Spotted Towhee 2
Song Sparrow 1
Lincoln's Sparrow 1

The Catbird and the Chat, species that breed at Chatfield in good numbers,
arrived almost on schedule, just a couple of days later than their earliest
arrival in the last 5 years. By contrast, we have only caught 2 House
Wrens so far (they usually are here when we start banding around April 26,
and 5 Yellow Warblers (first arrival date typically around May 1).

We are open six days per week (closed Tuesdays) through May 30. While some
COVID related restrictions remain in place, there are opportunities most
mornings for the public to visit, but reservations are required. Visit

 for
more information and to sign-up. Because each hour-long session is limited
to 10 people, we anticipate selling out most mornings, so register soon if
you are interested!
