I did a big loop through Boulder County today, heading into the mountains first
and then back through the western edge of the plains. Noteworthy birds
included a flock of 250 noisy Bohemian Waxwings about ½ mile east of Barker Dam
outside of Nederland (there was also a very late Mourning Dove in town).
Otherwise the mountains were slow, but I did see one Common Redpoll in
Allenspark. Back on the plains, more Common Redpolls with a flock of about 5
at McCaslin Lake along N. 59th St. I was able to peek at the Walden Ponds Fox
Sparrow as it scratched about under a tree and there are still 8 (5a, 3i)
Tundra Swans at Baseline Res.
