Yesterday while doing a little birding along the South Fork of the Carnero
Creek in Saguache County I spotted a high-flying Broad-winged Hawk. The
hawk was in a glide and heading straight south when I spotted it. Then, I
saw it pull in it's wings and stoop into the evergreen trees and perch. The
person I was birding with had a Saguache County checklist with them and this
species isn't listed on there, so this might be a first county record.
Nothing else unusual to report. There were a large number of Pinyon Jays in
the area; even in the higher conifers which I found interesting.
