Barb and I saw a typically tame Dusky Grouse hen strolling along the
Bear Peak West Ridge Trail today at about 10 am. Nearby was at least
one chick. Saw some Prairie Falcons nesting along Bear Canyon Trail.
The lower part of Bear Canyon Trail pretty birdy with Yellow-breasted
Chats, Lazuli Buntings, a Lesser Goldfinch. We hiked to the summit of
Bear Peak via Bear Canyon and the West Ridge, then down Fern Canyon to
our starting point below NCAR, a big loop, 2400 feet elevation gain on
a hot day, about three Tylenol for me.
