Dear Birders, I had a great morning out and about the Eldorado Mountain Open Space near Eldorado Springs. Bay Roberts told me about a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER that was in the burnt snags along the hogback on 5/31/11. It was still present this morning, vocalizing and drumming quite a bit. I found a singing ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER investigating cavities in the burn area that the Spring Brook Loop Trail goes through. That's a new one for me in this area, and I'm crossing my fingers for a breeding attempt. Also in this area was a singing male EASTERN BLUEBIRD, a species which as bred here for the last several years.
