This morning's Fort Collins Audubon Society field trip was focused on ducks and geese. With an emphasis on geese! Our group of 8 managed to locate 6 geese species in one morning: Canada, Cackling, Snow (almost 50, light and dark phases), Ross' (1), Greater White-fronted (1), and Brant (1, continuing at Houts Reservoir in Loveland). Windsor Reservoir, viewed close-up from an FCAS member's private residence (THANKS!!!), yielded all of these except Brant. [NOTE: No swans this morning at Houts.]
Duck variety was perhaps slightly less than I expected, but we did (barely) reach double digits. No rarities to report. Other highlights: A beautiful female harrier harassed in flight by 3 crows, and a pair of American Pipits on the west shore of Timnath Reservoir. About 40 species in total.
