We saw our 1st Ferruginous Hawks of the season this afternoon (3 of them)
on the road to Rabbit Mt. Have others been sighting them as well elsewhere?

Leonard Sitongia and I had three Ferruginous Hawks, two adult and one
juvenile this morning just after 11 o'clock passing by Rabbit Mountain.
Spotted Towhees and White Crowned Sparrows were evident, but nary a

Hi,I didn't find yesterday's Iceland Gull but did observe a light
juvenile Ferruginous Hawk when I arrived at 8:20 am. It was on the ground
about 75 yards from the western edge of the reservoir. Some time later

A strong clue to the ID of these young hawks is that the tarsi are feathered or
"rough." The old name for Ferruginous Hawk was "Ferruginous Rough-leg." (Ref:
Peterson, 1941)

seen recently around Colorado Springs and Falcon but I am not really sure.

Ferruginous and one Rough-legged Hawk on pole and fence post from the pass to

We had THREE Ferruginous Hawks in driveway this morning competing over
fresh rabbit roadkill. Pretty neat, photos here:
