COBirders,
Fountain Creek Nature Center hosted it's 20th winter bird count today. While the weather was incredibly warm, the bird numbers were low for a winter count. For the two hours of birding, we only had 41 species. Most all common birds. Tyler Stuart and I went out after noon and found a few more species. One Harris's Sparrow was seen again at the nature center feeders. Tyler also saw an adult White-throated Sparrow at the nature center feeder area, but it was not seen again by anyone else. At the beaver lodge in Rice's Pond, we found two Virginia Rail and a Marsh Wren. The white goose seen by counters in the morning in a huge Canada Goose flyover, was on Rice's Pond in the afternoon. It was a Ross's Goose. We looked for warblers, Winter wrens and kinglets, but did not find any. Also absent were most all of the diving ducks.
