Hi all,
I poked around a bit in Fremont County this morning. I was able to see 16 White-faced Ibis, two Lesser Yellowlegs, some Franklin's Gulls, and Blue-winged and Cinnamon Teal in a flooded field in Florence. I didn't see any Glossy Ibis with the this flock, and didn't see any Cattle Egrets around either. At Pathfinder Regional Park, between Florence and Canon City, along Hwy 115, there was singing House Wren and White-throated Swift flying over head. I decided I needed a walk, so I walked the western part of the Canon City Riverwalk, from Raynolds Ave to Sell Ave and back. I wasn't expecting too much, since it is a bit early. There were singing Yellow-rumped Warblers (probably more than I've seen anywhere else this spring), a Lincoln's Sparrow, two Eastern Phoebes, Mountain and Black-capped Chickadees, White-breasted Nuthatches, a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers, a Sharp-shinned Hawk, and five species of swallows (including Bank). When I returned to wet field in Florence, the Ibis weren't there, though everything else was still there. I returned to Pueblo West, and there were American White Pelicans soaring east of Swallows Road, and then I heard from Margie Joy, that another Pueblo West birder, saw a very bright yellow colored warbler, fly into Cattail Crossing Pond, as she was driving away. So, I met up with Margie, and we were able to see a male Common Yellowthroat! We also saw a Savannah Sparrow and two Canvasbacks, which seem to hang around here late into the spring.
