I tried for photos of the Red-shouldered Hawk at the Lamar Community College
Woods (Lamar, Prowers County) first thing this morning. The bird was not along
the powerline at the very north end of the woods as it was two separate times.
I walked the entire north end and think I flushed the bird but never got a
decent look, as it was being pursued by another smaller hawk (Cooper's or
Broad-winged would be my guess). No photos, no confirmation that it's still
there but I am betting it is. Both times I saw it along the powerline, it was
mid-afternoon, for what that's worth.

Just as I was leaving, a bird flying north landed in the very top of a
cottonwood at the north end of LCC - very pale, female Western Tanager. She
took off flying north, seemingly in earnest.

Total species for Lamar this visit: 92. Biggest misses: White-breasted
Nuthatch, White-winged Dove, Brown Thrasher, teal with blue in the wings,
Herring Gull, owl other than Great Horned, Lesser Scaup, and maybe Sprague's
Pipit.

At Last Chance, there was a fair amount of snow, an immature White-throated
Sparrow, Field Sparrow (eastern), Orange-crowned Warbler, Spotted Towhee, and
Ruby-crowned Kinglet. These were all around the pond and I did NOT go over to
the old motel across the intersection but probably should have.
