This morning at 8:45 I saw a female Long-tailed Duck on Terry Lake in
Longmont, Boulder County. I could not find the Barrow's Goldeneye reported
earlier, but it certainly could be there. Hundreds of Ring-billed Gulls,
along with many Bonaparte's and some Herring Gulls are near the west shore
of the lake and are seen best from 95th St about 2 miles north of Hwy 66.
Hundreds of Common Goldeneyes and Common Mergansers are also present, as
well as Pied-bill Grebes, a few Horned Grebes, Buffleheads, Hooded
Mergansers, and other species, exacerbating the problem of finding a single
bird. It is certainly fun looking though, and there may be other uncommon
species mixed in the bunch. Best viewed with a scope, although many birds
are near the shore.
