Fall migration is starting!  

With an avian biologist/ expert on local birds we saw the first Red Knot of the 
season migrating South, 7/1/11, on the N shore of Iceland, about 4 km from the 
Arctic Circle, presumably heading South from Greenland.

Saw some great birds - not great diversity, but great numbers of the ones they 
have. Best: 10 Gyrfalcons (three nests), White-tailed Eagle pair, several male 
Rock Ptarmigans, Common Eiders by the thousands, with 3 male Kings mixed in, 
one Female Steller's, and more than a few alcids.
Outstanding scenery, food, people,and towns.  We loved it.
