A few days after Tax Day, my boss mentioned he'd hung a hummingbird
feeder at his Walsenburg home and not 5 minutes later had
hummingbirds!

Personally, I've been so busy with two new puppies and trying not to
attract either black-birds nor bears...my bird-feeding has been on
second burner. I did, however, hang a couple brand-new, wide-mouthed
(easy clean) feeders (sans yellow; its the yellow that attracts
wasps), with built-in ant-moats up top. Cheap and way cool!

Still, it wasn't till my friend Amy from Aguilar called to let me know
she's got all three grosbeaks (Evening, Black-headed and Rose-
breasted), as well as Lazuli and Indigo Buntings and a couple pairs
of hummers, that I spent time actually watching birds while keeping an
eagle-eye (pardon the pun) on my little PeekapooTzu puppies. Heard
and then found what I expected to be a Black-headed Grosbeak...but
with the blotchy, rose-breast I'm thinking it was a Black-headed/Rose-
breasted hybrid. I get both around here every spring.

While standing near the hummingbird feeders, I heard the familiar
hum...and turned around to watch a male Black-chinned feed; dipping
his tail all the while. A bit later a female joined him...

No Green-tailed, but the beautiful, male Spotted Towhee with those
stunning red eyes still visits...along with a small handful of
juncos. Last night I watched swallows that were too high for me to
identify.

This morning I heard the Belted Kingfisher that I hope feeds at my new
pond, several woodpeckers pounding away and watched the hummers
hitting the juice before six am. The Turkey Vultures across the
street were still trying to warm up.
