COBIRDERS,
This morning, June 11th, Sue Schulman and I conducted a little
scouting trip at Belmar Park/Kountze Lake in Jefferson County (just west of S.
Wadsworth and W. Ohio).
We had a displaying Snowy Egret, a pair of Spotted Sandpipers, dozens
of Mallard ducklings, a female Wood Duck with 3 ducklings, and 2 pairs of
Am. Avocets which appear to each be nesting on the island in the middle of
Kountze Lake.  Have Avocets nested here before?
Lastly, about 11:00 a.m. we spotted a Northern Mockingbird.  We
watched it fly a number of times and watched it while perching.  We found it
just
to the southwest of Kountze Lake flying back and fourth between the 10 to 12
foot bushy pines.  These trees are located between the walking tail around
the lake and the horse path to the west, with grasslands to the south and
west of the trees.
I will check for this bird again tomorrow.
It is the first Mockingbird I have ever seen in Jeffco and according
to Karleen Schofield, may be a first for Belmar Park.

Thank, Chris
