Hello, Birders.

There's a good article in yesterday's Daily Camera (Boulder newspaper) on
listening to night birds and watching the Perseids.

Kudos to writer Joe Prentice for getting everything right! I know we birders
often lament, inaccurate ornithological reporting in the "mainstream"
(non-birding) media, but Joe did a great job in my opinion. His article touches
on all of the following:

* Nocturnal flight calls of Yellow Warbler, Chipping Sparrow, and Lark Sparrow
* Sex differences in the vocalizations of Mallards and Great Horned Owls
* Night-singing in local resident (not migrating) Barn Swallows
* Migratory sleeplessness in Swainson's Thrush and White-crowned Sparrow
* Effects of weather on the detectability of nocturnal flight calls
* Facultative molt-migration by passerines in the Interior West (!)

Again, a fine job, in my opinion, by Camera staff writer Joe Prentice.
