A Painted Redstart (Kansas's 3rd State Record) was found yesterday and is still present this morning in Morton County, Kansas. This is in the southwest corner of the state, and the bird is only about 10 miles from Baca County, Colorado. The bird is along the south side of the Cimarron River in a picnic area just east of Hwy 27, just a few miles north of Elkhart, Kansas. Birders should be on the look out for this and other rare southwestern birds, that might be overshooting their breeding grounds.
