The ponds along the Poudre Trail at 35th Avenue north of Greeley had some
interesting birds. The first pond on the south of the trail is frozen and
had about 1000 Canada geese on it and a few gulls. The ponds on the north
(one with some open water) had many geese and 2 mute swans. The second
lake on the south was mostly open water and sported lots of birds. We saw
2 bald eagles, a red tailed hawk, thousands of cackling and Canada geese,
15 snow geese, including 1 blue phase, 2 mute swans, dozens of common
mergansers, some common goldeneye, and one surprising Clarks nutcracker
(flying in and out of a tree about a quarter of a mile in.)
