Let me heartily endorse Doug's Chamber of Commerce sell of the Flagler CBC. (Confession moment here--I started this count.)
It is really wonderful to be part of claiming a National High for a species. I think the Flagler CBC has managed that crown for Lapland Longspur three times in its 12 or so years since the count started. All it takes is really rotten weather! And, you should have that this year. But brave it out. Head out to Flagler and find some Lapland Longspurs. You really won't have to spend much time out of your vehicle. And the lunch at the I-70 Diner (one of Joe Roller's favorites) is certainly hearty. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it. I will be in North Pinellas County, Florida preparing for our 12/26 CBC (we were 53rd in the country last year with 156 species.
