Yesterday morning while proceeding to work from Shields Osprey nest I saw about 30-40 vultures ascending into thermals in and around Mountain-quite a sight. Thanks Gary Lefko, Nunn http://coloradobirder.ning.com Mobile: http://coloradobirder.ning.com/m On Monday, April 7, 2014 7:58:07 PM

I drove by the FC Turkey Vulture roost area this evening (8 April 2014) about 6:45, saw 15-20 circling and landing in the trees on Mountain. A block south on Washington, though...there had to be a hundred. Pic: http://coloradobirder.ning.com/photo/turkeyvultureroost-ftcollins-8apr2014 - Barry

Made a quick stop at the roost this evening (6:40) and saw 9 TV's - I'm sure there's more - in the traditional roost on Mountain Ave. Around the corner on Washington, about mid block, East side I saw a dozen vultures in the tall spruces. It's amazing how easily they meld into the limbs. David

Similar tree removal has occurred at the traditional roosts in Boulder and Longmont. The vultures were quite adaptable - moving to other trees in the area of the original roost, or a block or two away. Continuous use of the spruce trees by the birds gives the trees a characteristic bare branch
