I agree with your obsevations about the neck, chin and uniformity of the facial
design. I did not note the exact cap color. The rust on the sides of the neck
was bright, I did see that. Based on those things, I was hasty to call it a
juvenile. It was, based on your obsevation, more likely
I observed the Red-necked Grebe at about 9:30 a.m. at the Cottonwood Creek
pond, across from the model airplane field at CCSP. He was conveniently located
at the near shore, not too far from the parking pullout. The bird appears to
have suffered an injury. There is a flap of skin and feathers

The bird has been there since mid-morning, and is a great opportunity to see
one easily.
Questions -
Is it a juvenile, or a molting adult? The cap is black, not gray, and is
very well defined/set off from nearby features; the white is bright and
extends almost all the way
