Yesterday I found 16 Red-breasted Mergansers on our smallish Brush Hollow Reservoir that is about 15 miles northeast of Canon City. This is an unusual species in this area and especially this number of birds. I stopped by today on my way to Pueblo but did not see them, though not surprising as they were moved around the reservoir yesterday by a single motorboat on this small body of water. I got some photos of them when they swam close to the west shore and have uploaded them to my Birds and Nature blog <http://birdsandnature.blogspot.com/>. There were also other common waterfowl on the water including a nice raft of about 20 Redhead Ducks.
I also had a small flock of Bushtits work their way past me in the junipers on the the hill west of the reservoir where I was parked yesterday. I found Bushtits today on the east side of the reservoir working through rabbitbrush in that location. It was nice to see a few more species than the few Mallards, coots and Canada Geese that have been all I have seen in several other trips out there in the past month or so.
