On May 26, a Red-headed Woodpecker appeared and began calling from a burned
ridge on our property. He has consistently moved to the national forest and
back to our ridge. While these birds are not a rarity, it is interesting to
me that they are attracted to burn areas.

This is a late post as I was headed out of the country and just
returned. On May 31, an adult Red-headed Woodpecker was seen at Owl
Canyon Road and SH 287 - a quarter mile from the junction (second
house on left heading east). A first for me for Larimer.

Two early evening forays into town have produced sightings of a male
red-headed woodpecker, first ever for us. As we drive from our subdivision
onto the county road, the woodpecker flies over to the same fence post, then
