I am sorry for this late post but I just got home from Cripple Creek.

This morning Jeanne and I ventured up to Teller County, and while the area was
not what I would call birdy, the birds that were there were fun to see.

In Divide, we went to the same spot we went to last year (directions below).
The house that had so many feeders had NONE this year and there was a For Sale
sign. However, there are just enough feeders in the neighborhood that we saw
over 200 Rosy-finches. The bulk of the group were Gray-crowned, but there were
a few Brown-capped and I feel confident enough to say we identified one (1)
Black. Other birds in the neighborhood included Pygmy Nuthatches, juncos,
crows, Stellar's Jays, and magpies.

At Mueller State Park, we saw a Gray Jay, a Clark's Nutcracker, a Hairy WP,
several Mountain Chickadees, crows and magpies.

Cold, sunny, breezy - mountain birding at its best.

Directions to Rosy-finches: Go west on US-24 out of Woodland Park toward
Divide. Just before you get to Divide there is a stop light at the entrance to
the Meadow Park subdivision. Turn right into the subdivision, go around the
traffic circle. Take the second left on Allison Place and go to the end. The
Rosy-finches were in the trees all around the cul-de-sac. One house has a
feeder on its deck and the deck and roof of that house were covered with them.
Other streets in the subdivision yielded some birds, but no other Rosy-finches.

Good birding!
