In a drive around the Monte Vista Refuge today, the first few Sandhill
Cranes arrived in a trickle of a few here and there. This is about the
normal time for them to show up. Had a warm day today and snow was melting
and turning things to mud. No water is running yet at the MV Refuge. You
can expect that to happen closer to the end of the month. Hope to keep you
apprised of crane conditions here from week to week.

And from the most unusual files, a Greater Yellowlegs has spent the winter
here for a first winter record. It can be seen at Home Lake SWA on the
canal where there is open water. Also, this winter saw only the second and
third winter records for Lewis's Woodpecker in the San Luis Valley.
