Hello,

With the recent split of "Winter" Wren into two North American species
(Pacific and Winter) by the American Ornithologists' Union, the Colorado
Bird Records Committee (CBRC) is attempting to determine what the status
and distribution of each of the two species are in the state, especially
for Pacific Wren. It is our belief that Pacific Wren has occurred in
Colorado, but there have only been one or two reports of the species
that have been submitted to the CBRC. At this point, Pacific Wren is
NOT on the state review list, but we would like to know what the true
status is.

I am requesting birders that have seen or heard Pacific Wrens in
Colorado to provide some information as to where and when. Also, if
folks could indicate how they determined a given sighting to be that of
Pacific Wren (plumage, song-call, location, time of year, etc.), that
would also be useful as well. Any information submitted to the CBRC
will be used as a benchmark and will not be considered as a formal
documentation to the Committee for review. We're just looking to
receive some dialogue of what people think the status may be.

Folks can email me privately with any information they have.

Best wishes,

Larry Semo

Chair, CBRC
