Horseshoe Lake and Lake Loveland on the north side of Loveland in Larimer
County continue to be hotspots for gulls. Lake Loveland hosted about 300
Franklin’s Gulls, fairly evenly distributed across the lake surface. Also a
handful or 2 of Bonaparte’s Gulls among them.

Horseshoe Lake this afternoon hosted two large gull flocks on the west side,
observed from the neighborhood off Monroe St. Combined, the number of
California Gulls was about 650, which caused a flag in ebird. All were adult
except for 1 brown first-cycle individual. Two other first-cycle birds were
present – a Lesser Black-backed Gull (different than the 4 here on Saturday),
and a Thayer’s Gull. Also a straggling adult Herring Gull, and some Franklin’s
Gulls.

Photos of most of these birds (and the pink-washed Ring-billed Gull from
yesterday) are in my recent birds gallery on my pbase site –
www.pbase.com/quetzal.
