After the rain let up, I decided to see what was hiding at Walden Ponds this afternoon.
Cottonwood Marsh had a bunch of Pelicans, some Lesser Yellowlegs, some Avocet, a couple of Long-Billed Dowitchers, four Least Sandpipers and a Wilson's Phalarope. Someone mentioned that there were some good birds on Duck Pond, so I wandered back there after awhile. Sure enough, six White-Faced Ibis. Working around the south end, I found some White-Crowned Sparrows and a lone Orange-Crowned Warbler. Moving over to Sawhill Pond #2, there was a Snowy Egret along with a couple Cinnamon Teal. I got back to Cottonwood Marsh with some daylight left. Reaching the top of the boardwalk, I ran into Bill Kaempfer, who was looking for the Pharlarope. We found it again, and also spotted a small flock of sandpipers, they turned out to be seven Semipalmated and a Western. Bill also found a Semipalmated Plover and a Pipit that were hopping around on the dryer spots. We saw two Long-Billed Dowitchers as well, but just as we were getting ready to leave, there were suddenly four of them. The sunset wasn't out of the ordinary, but was a nice end to a decent afternoon.
