Urling & I just observed a dozen Am. Avocets on a sand bar at the Walker Road
Gravel Pit. (10 a.m.). With them a yellowlegs, 3 Mallards, and 26 Canada Geese.
And across the lake, 4-5 adult Black Angus & one kid.

This afternoon around 4:00 pm a flock of 100 Canadas & 50 Cackling Geese flew
into the Walker Pit; with them came one White-fronted Goose. It swam with about
20 Canadas and even moved fairly close to the viewing area for the Pit.
At about 4:40 pm when Urling went to find it , all but 20 geese h
Urling & I just came home from watching a huge number of waterfowl on the
Walker Pit (a/k/a Walker Gravel Pond).
We don't have numbers tallied yet but the list includes 200+ Cackling Geese,
100 Gadwalls, 100+ Am. Wigeon, 50+ N. Shovelers, Lesser Scaup, Canada Geese,
plus some Mallards, GW Tea
The Walker Pit this morning held a couple of hundred Cackling & Canada Geese.
Among them I saw two Greater White-fronted Geese. The geese probably move in
and out to feed, so if you go you might not find them.
Also, Vicki Monroe, south of Franktown, reported two Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches
at her
Walker Pit or Walker Pond, is changing daily as far as birds go. On 4/1, I
stopped by the pond and I saw 5, Bufflehead, 6, Northern Shoveler, 4,
Green-winged Teal, 2, American Widgeon, 3, Gadwall, and 8, Greater Scaup. No
Lesser Scaup were seen here, or several days ago, when I saw Greater S
We just stopped at the Walker Pit and had a couple of surprises.
Among the hundreds of Canada/Cackling Geese: one striking White-fronted Goose &
one probable Snow Goose. Both on the east shore or nearby water.
