Ho all,

Yesterday my gf and I tried for the swans at Waneka Lake, which were
no longer present. There is still some open water and we had a few
duck species:

Mallard 10
Ring-necked Duck 25
Common Merganser 7
American Widgeon 2
Ring-billed Gull 10 to 15

There was also a small mixed flock of white-cheeked geese, presumably
50% Canada's and 50% Cackling. I'm still a little unsure as to
whether our wintering shorter necked white-cheeked geese are
considered Cackling or not. I'm assuming they are the "Richardson's"
subspecies, which would make them Cackling, but maybe I'm wrong.

I was also wondering if some of our local gull experts would be
willing to either confirm or correct my ID of 3 gulls on an out of
state trip to Maine. I'm having trouble getting opinions from the
local community out there and I know we have quite a few gull fanatics
here in CO that can help me confirm this lifer. Confirmation of the
subspecies would also be nice, in case this species is split in the
future. Thanks in advance to anyone who comments. I'm an amateur
guller at best. Also, since its out of state, I believe cobirds rules
prohibit discussing the ids here, so shoot me an email. Pictures of
the birds in question can be found here:

Also, if anyone relocates the Red-necked Grebe at Valmount Res that
was seen yesterday I would love an email. I don't have time to go out
there today, but am planning on going tomorrow if it is seen again.
Thanks.
