For the second time this week, two Western Scrub-jays visited my backyard, on the shores of Quincy reservoir in Arapahoe County. I've never seen them this far away from the foothills. I also had a Steller's Jay recently, as well as a large family of recently fledged Blue Jays. I spotted a group of 12 tonight.
The daily commute of 300-400 red-winged blackbirds between Aurora reservoir and Quincy reservoir happened tonight too, as usual. An overhead peregrine falcon and a flock of 25-30 bushtits into a backyard cherry tree made this August 9th into a remarkable backyard birding evening.
