We took a drive from Fort Collins out to Woods Lake this morning just to see
what might be out there. We were pleased to have one Golden Eagle at the
top of the largest Cotton Wood tree - at the intersection of the private
eastern driveway and the highway. After observing her for awhile we saw a
Red-tailed Hawk fly in - briefly - and then cross the highway flying north.
We had a terrific view of his underside.

On our way home - we drove over to Sharpe Point road (off Prospect) and took
the trail to the Environmental Learning Center. We heard, first, at least
one Belted Kingfisher and then were treated to two perched on a tree branch
over the "ditch". What was remarkable was the tremendous amount of water in
the ditch as well as the Poudre River. It is as high as perhaps during June
Rise.
