I spoke with the sanitation district Wednesday to get more specific info on
what they plan to do at the east end of the Canon City Riverwalk (sending
it to me Monday). I asked if they would be working there over the long
Thanksgiving week-end and they said they would not. Since they have so far
just dropped off big pipes and equipment and have not dug anything up they
said it would not be dangerous to enter the closed area (though they would
not officially say it was ok to go in due to insurance and liability
issues). I did go look for the Worm-eating Warbler on Thursday, Friday and
this morning but no sign of that vagrant. They have been in the area where
it was seen with front loaders to place big pipes along the side of the
trail so some disruption has occurred.

While looking for the warbler Thursday, a Black-capped Chickadee put up a
big fuss about the Great Horned Owl over the trail (it's been there several
times in the past few weeks without this fuss but it must have annoyed the
chickadee that day). A second bird took up the alarm calling and after
watching the leaf-filled shrubs for several minutes I spotted a Winter
Wren. It carried on for a few minutes in chorus with the chickadee then
vanished in the undergrowth. I refound the Winter Wren on Friday by itself
and got a few distant photos I will upload later. This morning I saw it
working around a fallen tree where chickadees were also working.

I hadn't gone back to Centennial Park to look for the juv. Yellow-bellied
Sapsucker for about a week as it had been very shy and I didn't want to
disturb it too much. I refound it yesterday in the pines at that park and
it is still very shy. Found a female Williamson's in Rouse Park but it
may be the same sapsucker that I found in early November at the McKinley
School as I have not relocated one there since. I also saw the even more
shy male Williamson's at Rouse Park today but too shy for photos. I did
get photos of the female Williamson's and juv Yellow-bellied that I
uploaded to my Birds and Nature <http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com> blog
(also added a cool video showing an octopus walking on land).
