Subject: [cobirds] banding at Clear Spring Ranch (CSR)* Sunday morning 4/29/12
Birders: We had an enjoyable morning of banding Wed at Clear Springs Ranch (CSR)*. It warmed up quickly and there was little wind! Chokecherries (Prunus virginiana) were in full bloom Our list: House Wren - 1 Brown Thrasher - 2 Spotted Towhee - 1 recap (Initially banded at CSR on April 26, 2006 as an ASY. So we can add 2 years to its life, which makes it at least 8 years old!!! The record longevity for SPTO is over 12 (CA), but we may now have the record for Colorado). Chipping Sparrow - 1 Lincoln's Sparrow - 1 Gambel's White-crowned Sparrow (GWCS) - 15, + 3 recaps (initially banded at CSR 10/02/2011 as an AHY; other two not mine Mountain White-crowned Sparrow (MWCS) - 1 + 1 recap (initially banded at CSR 10/30/2011 as an AHY Species 6 Birds processed - 26 List of birds seen: Mallard Blue-winged Teal Wild Turkey Eurasian Collared-dove Mourning Dove Red-shafted Flicker Blue Jay White-breasted Nuthatch House Wren American Robin Brown Thrasher European Starling Spotted Towhee Lincoln's Sparrow White-crowned Sparrow Brown-headed Cowbird 20 species Butterflies: Many Red Admirals Many American Lady Good birding to you.
