Just got a phone call from Ken Allen who saw at 11:10 am this morning a

Since several people have asked: North CR 15 crosses Boxelder Creek between CR

I only had the one good luck in 50 mins of watching but others found the cuckoo

Birders,
This am, Tammy, me, Joe and Karin had a Yellow-billed Cuckoo at Barr Lake
State Park. It was 1st near the bridge and flew out into the mullen in the
prairie.
It was a good morning there. Lots of birds on the water and it seems the
local breeders have become more active.

Let us all know what you figure out, about Chatfield, please.
YB cuckoos can be found there most summers where the forest is most dense,
between Kingfisher Bridge and Waterton Bridge,
closer to the latter. Look at e bird map for there to see where best and
most dense habitat lies.

Hello all,
I was wondering if anybody has relocated the yellow-billed cuckoo that was
seen in Chatfield SP yesterday, or if anybody knows where it was last
seen. It would be a lifer for me, and one that I've tried for in SE
Colorado, Illinois, Florida, and Mexico without success. Any information
This morning, while looking for dragonflies in eastern part of the Osprey
Picnic Area (below Pueblo Reservoir dam in the Rock Canyon Picnic Area), I was
happy to hear a calling Yellow-billed Cuckoo. Margie Joy was close by and was
also able to hear it. I got a quick look at parts of it, way hi
A friend of mine's neighbor had a window strike kill of a Yellow-billed Cuckoo
up here in Woodland Park. After taking pix, she has the bird in the freezer, in
pristine condition.
We think this might be a first record for Teller County.

This morning I found an adult Yellow-billed Cuckoo and observed it feed an
apparent fledgling cuckoo in Lamar Woods in Lamar. Interestingly the

Hi folks,
I'm just on my way back to Boulder after nearly a month in western Colorado. I
stopped by the Welchester Grant tree park in Jefferson County, on the off
chance that I might be able to see the blue winged warbler reported weeks ago,
but to no avail (not surprisingly, given the time of

I haven't often either viewed a Yellow-billed Cuckoo up close or taken
photos that provide the close-up views as I did with the bird I found
yesterday in Van's Grove. I have seen in Sibley's and National Geographic
(6th ed) that they have a yellow orbital ring and show drawings of both

Just heard a calling Yellow-billed Cuckoo in the yard (at Rain Crow
Farm...or maybe that should be a calling Rain Crow at the Cuckoo Farm as
crazy a farm season as it has been!). Great to hear one here as it has
been over a year since we've detected one here. In 2006 and 2007 they were

Yesterday morning while looking for breeding bird activity on private lands
near Canon City I heard soft coo-coo-cooing calls. After some
investigation I spotted a Yellow-billed Cuckoo skulking behind vegetation.
I was able to get one photo, albeit not great as the bird stayed behind
vegetation, b
I took advantage of Sunday's amazingly cool temps to bird in the La Junta
area where temps have been closer to the hundred mark. My first stop was at
the sewage ponds in Fowler, a location that has either been poor for birding
or the gate has been locked in previous attempts in the past year or so
This morning (Aug 12) near Hotchkiss I encountered a pair of

Tom Halverstadt showed Harriet Stratton and I nesting Yellow-billed

In addition to seeing the bay-breasted warbler with Bill Maynard this morning,

Jason Beason dragged me out of bed wy too early this morning on a quest for
cuckoos (other than ourselves, specifically). We wandered down to Andrea's
house, where we got a chance to visit and watch the cooper's hawk fledges and
the profusion of hummers before (and after) Larry showed up.
Yesterday was another cool day in the lower Arkansas Valley so I took
advantage to get some cool birding in (east of Pueblo the temps were in the

I heard a Yellow-billed Cuckoo calling this afternoon on my property in SW

My neighbor across the river - Carter Keegan - just called to report a

Hopefully, they will be calling down by the river often this spring and
