New (?) behavior of screensavers wrt. keyboard clicks

It used to be the case that a screensaver (launched by macOS) was terminated as soon as the user wiggled the mouse, or clicked a keyboard key. Now, at least on my macbook, I just get the alert sound (a blip in my case). It sounds as if there was an app that didn't respond to the event. (Yes, I ha
