Can I get directories / files as xml?

Does cocoon enable looking through directories and the file system as xml? In .Net I wrote my own classes to turn the File System Structure and the Request object into XML, but I'd prefer if cocoon had this built in. If not, can someone point me to the classes / files I need to work with to
