At the California Digital Library (CDL), we believe passionately that the
library, in all its forms, is critically important to the vital work of
students, scholars and the public. As a University of California systemwide
library, CDL provides services to and on behalf of the UC system as a partner
and collaborator to the UC campus libraries. As a globally-connected digital
library, CDL occupies a unique position between the local UC campuses and the
global digital library infrastructure. The user base for CDL services and
programs includes UC faculty, students and library staff; the patrons of the
consortia in which the UC Libraries participate; and the many people worldwide
who benefit from UC's open access offerings.

The CDL Discovery & Delivery (D2D) Director is responsible for working
collaboratively across CDL and with stakeholders at UC and beyond to develop a
forward-thinking strategic vision for the essential services and technologies
that connect faculty, students and staff to UC collections and open access
materials. The director provides oversight, encourages collaboration and
innovation, and ensures the successful operation of D2D systems, services and
initiatives.

Reporting to the CDL's Associate Vice Provost/Executive Director (AVP/ED), and
consulting within the UC Libraries' ten-campus advisory structure, the D2D
director is a member of the CDL senior leadership team tasked with planning and
implementing a comprehensive and coordinated suite of digital library services.
The D2D service portfolio includes:

Melvyl - UC Libraries' union catalog/discovery service run on OCLC's WorldCat
Local
Request - ILL and document delivery services built atop of OCLC's VDX
UC-eLinks - UC Libraries' link resolver run on Ex Libris' SFX
Zephir - a metadata management system for the 15 million+ volume Hathi Trust
digital library
Agua - a shared print management system that supports the Western Regional
Storage Trust (WEST) and UC Libraries Shared Print programs

In addition, the UC Libraries and CDL are currently pursuing a plan to
investigate, select and implement a consortial Intergrated Library System for
the UC Libraries; the D2D program will assume a primary role in the success of
the project. We expect this consortial ILS, once implemented, to significantly
reconfigure the D2D service portfolio and create opportunities to rethink the
contemporary infrastructure required to fulfill the ongoing key requirements of
discovery, link resolution and interlibrary loan across the system.
