James,

We should keep this discussion on the commons-dev email list, I'll cc it there. I would love to take a patch file for you, and if you haven't worked with Open Source before and Apache specifically I can help you. In terms of getting the changes in, well we are ALL apache developers! In order to submit a patch, all you have to do is check out the source, make the change, write a unit test, and then create a patch file. I find Eclipse and Maven make this very very easy.

I suggest you read http://www.apache.org/foundation/how-it-works.html for more about Apache Foundation and how you can become involved.

Well, my use case is simpler but I know for sure it is happening in real word: the encoding of email addresses is different from that of the whole message. This happens to some Japanese mail systems, as I was told.

To cope with my use case, the fix is extremely easy: in the org.apache.commons.mail.Email class, just add a few more methods to take javax.mail.internet.InternetAddress as parameter. Afterall, I believe InternetAddress is used internally anyway.

I don't want to go through the hassle of creating accounts, etc., in order to submit patches, and just hoping some apache mail developer will make this easy fix. Your scenario is interesting but different; I'd imaging you'll have to change the encoding for the message body itself in order to send to different recipients (expecting specific encoding)?

Cheers,

------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2005-11-29 15:36 ------- Would you like to submit a patch and a unit test? Basically, what this allows you to do is send a single email to multiple recipients, and each recipient gets their own charset for their email?
