I read the onlamp.com article about android, and there are a few issues
where I'm thinking "wow, they are getting this right!" and "but what is
openmoko doing in this area?". namely:

ok, since I don't want to improve the openmoko core itself, but write some
application to install and run on my moko,
On the list I see next to no mails about people writing applications for
moko. What would be the best way to start doing that?
I'd prefer some script language over C or C++ by far. Has any script
language been integrated into the openmoko default image these days,
or would I need to install some i

for building openmoko images, so I can help with testing,
and start writing my own apps using the latest code and style
as the rest of openmoko.

It's my understanding that the apps coming with the phone will use

you like C++, the gtkmm wrapper around gtk+ works really well. Qt is
also quite popular.

I wrote a game in turbo pascal a decade or two ago.
if I wanted to rewrite it for openmoko, which toolkit
etc. would I use for the graphics and sound effects?
rewriting this game once more is always a nice way for
me to learn some new language and toolkit and do something
useful at the same time.
