Harry,
Have you tried re-seating the card? Perhaps the contacts are not meeting up.
When I inserted mine, I slid the SIM into the metal piece while it was
vertical, then closed it. To lock the metal piece, you have to slide it a
little.
Good luck.

Mark,
You will find out very soon that the rootfs image you used is badly broken.
"gta01-20070704215706" has a bug that causes gsmd to not respond. The issue

Cool. Glad to hear you got your device (and found a way to power it).

I'm #1820. And have received a payment confirmation. It is my understanding
that they have actually charged VERY few credit cards.
Note: There is a page on the Wiki that details some order # info:

With regard to the current status of things, essentially FIC has NOT charged
most people's credit cards, and has NOT shipped any devices. Hopefully FIC
will start processing the orders and shipping devices in the very near
future.

No you are not the only one. Other members of the list have fingered Gmail as
the source of the problem. It seems that any mail coming from that domain is
getting duplicated.

AFAIK, nobody has received their phone yet. We have been warned multiple
times that we should not expect much from this first round of devices. That
said, I would be willing to bet that as soon as the phones start shipping,
you will see a bunch of updates.

Not yet. Nobody has received their "Shipment 1" devices. As soon as we get
our hands on them, I am sure you will be hearing more o nthis list and on the

However, we have been told several times, that we should not expect much from
the phone at this point. I expect that the software wi
Somebody on the IRC channel earlier was saying shipping is slated for the

AFAIK, ship dates have not been confirmed by anyone from FIC/OpenMoko.
Last we heard, the phones were in customs as they were being air-mailed to
California. From there, they are supposed to be distributed.

I have a "traditional" plan with Tmobile. I just added the $5.99 "T-MobileWeb"
to my account in preparation for the arrival of my Neo. It appears that this
$5.99 service should be sufficient (instead the $29.99 "Total Internet" plan)

Vicente,
It is believed that the developer version (due to be released today) will be
available world-wide. The phone is un-locked, un-subsidized, so it is not
linked to any carrier. You should be able to use it with any GSM provider by
simply inserting an active SIM card.
Hope this helps.

Jim,
Question: Do the regulations govern devices that are offered for sale in the
US, but not devices that are sold by an off-shore company to people in the
US?
I was under the impression that any electronic device sold for use in the USA
has to be cleared by the FCC.

That is news to me. The only other project planning to use neo1073 AFAIK is a
recent announcement by Sun to build some sort of mobile platform. They used
the neo1973 as a mockup in the press release...
Word here is that this phone's hardware is still stuck on the assemply line.

There are not many neo1973 owners yet. Only about 36 developers have received
