¿May I suggest the image being a virtualbox one instead of vmware? Virtualbox
is quite fast as well, and there are free (as in speech) versions available for
all major distros. Only problem is that the open source does not support usb
(but the commercial version is freely downloadable and does).
What about leaving most of the screen without actions, and the "hangup / hold /
speaker" buttons in the bottom of the screen? It's the part less probable to be
touched by funny ears, and that way you can still use it fine...

researching lately while trying to choose a platform), but it certainly sounds
as quite broken and not nearly finished enough to base some softw

on closed third party API's (e.g. Skyhook) to access similar
functionality or alternatively try one of the community driven
database lookup approaches.
