A soldering iron makes a nice neat hole and a little nasty toxic smoke.
A drill sheds little bits of plastic that are static charged so they
are sticky and migrate to inconvenient places

I found a description of disassembling the 1973 that describes where the
GSM antenna connector is. They actually mention an alternative case that
provides access to it.
