A friend of mine asked if he could get some accidentally deleted text
messages back from his SIM card - so I started looking into how a SIM
works and how to communicated with it.

encryption has overhead - more than a 160 characters allows without
tricks.
and why bother? - if the trigger is a random code known only to you,
whats the problem?

you've got most likely no syslog installed.
configure a file somewhere where it survives reboot (and bear in mind that
it grows fast).

(with gpg perhaps) beforeha

a generic messaging program that attempts to contact the person using
normal TCP/IP and fall back to SMS if that doesn't work.
