I have made tons of compost by hand. What you are talking about is called "sheet compost" and it works. Or you do not have to bury it. Just put on top of the ground the way Nature does it. The forest does very well leaving it on top of the ground. So will the garden. I no longer make compos

Can I dig some food scraps directly into the ground around plants in my vegetable garden, such as egg shells, coffee grounds, etc? Or is it a must to use a compost pile. Not to sound too lazy, but I'm wondering which things could be dug in and which really should be put into a compost pile.
