This from a gardener in Philly:
Our water barrels got really rusty. I emptied them out, but I'm
concerned about using them now. Do you have any advice? Can they be
cleaned, how much rust is ok?

I'm not sure if rusty water is a danger or detriment to plants- we know it
ain't great for people...but our garden avoided what we perceived might be a
problem by using plastic and untreated wood.
You know, why don't you call somebody at your local agricultural extension or
a trusted
available to plants.
The only problem I can see would be sediment clogging up your
sprinklers/watering cans?
