This is a gnome-panel bug, see
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=636842. There are a number of
similar bugs filed upstream for metacity as well, but this is definitely
gnome-panel being weird. It does not set the _NET_WM_STRUT property
correctly when panels are adjacent to other screens.

I thought this was something to do with the Focus Prevention Level.
However, when I set that to OFF, I can still reproduce what I think is
the same problem:
I keep two windows (A and B) maximized. Ensure Window A has focus.

Still seeing this on today's natty daily livecd. Sometimes restarting
compiz fixes it, sometimes not. Switching to metacity also fixes it. I
have an ATI Radeon 4850 btw.

Not being able to set Run Application to Alt-Esc is bug 518979. It seems
you don't have the compiz extrawm plugin enabled as this is what allows
the toggle fullscreen to work and with that plugin enabled I can set the
option to Ctrl-Alt-z and it makes windows fullscreen.

Is anyone having this trouble anymore? We've changed how we check for
capabilities needed to run compiz so this kind of problem should not
happen.

Both of these work correctly in natty so apparently this was fixed in

If you go in to the Preferences on the left side of ccsm and turn off
gnome integration you can set these two options however you would like.
Just don't expect your setting to sync over if you decide to run
metacity in the future. :)

When I run xterm under compiz in natty, it never draws anything to its
window; the contents of the window remain frozen at whatever was
underneath the window when it started. Furthermore, it does not respond

Thanks Travis, and is there a workaround? I'm totally opened to use any
other shortcut, but the main requirement is: "button1" instead this
can't be used with a touchpad.
